The Sound Kitchen is the sound recording facility formerly known as Madhead Kitchen [1999-2003], affiliated to the independent record label Madhead Kitchen Records. The facility is in the process of setting up a branch in Kampala, Uganda to take it's unique style of professional sound production to East Africa.
The London unit is mobile and is run by producer Kaz Kasozi who brings over 11 years professional studio experience and 15 years as a musician/arranger. The Kampala branch is to be run by a collective of musicians with periodical visits by engineers/producers from the UK. Construction of a dedicated building was held back by beauraucratic delays with the planning permission but work is finally under way; the first phase was completed in December 2007; it is set to open in 2009.
The Sound Kitchen is also devoted to developing standards in musicianship and live music recording and facilitating progressive artists in Uganda. Presently 6 Ugandan acts are being facilitated by The Sound Kitchen at subsidised rates or free of charge. This is part of an ongoing project by Ug Arts a body founded by Kaz to promote and raise the standards of Ugandan music and visual arts.
